We are just finishing up a serious redo of the website. We will be offering some exciting new projects in the next few months. We will still be offering the classic live CD of LAS Linux updated and rebuilt with many new tools. But will also be offering virtual machines of differently configured servers. I have been working to make a new version of the website. Along with doing work t prepare for the next release of L.A.S. Linux. It will be my New Years resolution to get the next release out. The version of L.A.S. that was available for download was very out of date and not much use. So thanks for the emails and I will be posting the new updated site in the next few weeks. Being that I will have a lot of time off from work for the holidays. For those looking to download previous versions of L.A.S. for educational use or to update themselves look HERE. After some long thought and looking at what there is out there I have come to the conclusion that security related Live-CD distros are a dime a dozen now. I am proud of the fact that LAS Linux was one of the first and maintained a great focus on being a security distro and not a desktop with some security tools on it. But with the explosive growth of everyone making Live-CD distros I have come to a crossroads. Do I come out with the next generation LAS Linux with the same focus as previous ones? Or do I use LocalAreaSecurity.com to go in another direction still focused on InfoSec but more from a research standpoint? Others have also started InfoSec related podcasts in the time since the LAS Podcast first “aired”. So that is now being a little overdone too. Anyone have a suggestion as to the goals and focus we should pursue? It has been a fun 4+ years so far! I will be redoing the site over the next few months and getting everything in place to tackle some exciting project(s). We are still looking for team members so please feel free to email me if interested and dedicated. UPDATE - Thanks for all the comments and emails. I have decided to start working on finishing a version 6 of L.A.S. Linux due to the demand that still abounds. It is nice to know that people appreciate the work over the years. I am still looking for people to help get it done faster. So please email me if interested and dedicated to helping! In other related news I have upgraded the site to and an working to redo the theme and fix a few bugs caused from the upgrade. -Jascha Filed under: News Comments: 5 Comments |

The upcoming version is on hold for a bit since I am busy trying to finish a book and lack the time to focus on the new version. As soon as the book is complete I will release the new version. As well as commence the L.A.S. Podcasts once again. Thanks to everyone for the emails of encouragement! Filed under: News Comments: 2 Comments |
